Your Happiness Coach

I grew up as a person with quite a serious physical disability and basically just went through the motions, used a lot of defence mechanisms, and was mostly in survival mode.
It was not a given that I would live,
It was not a given that I would walk,
It was not a given that I would go to school,
It was not a given that I would make it to my final school year,
It was not a given that I would get a higher education,
It was not a given that I would get a job and hold a job or grow in my job,
It was not a given that I would also find love,
It was not a given that would be able to be independent
Yes, despite all of this, I had something crucial, a loving, supportive family, great friends and colleagues, incredible doctors, and most of all, relentless resilience, more perseverance than what was sometimes good for me, a positive attitude, and a vision. I believed I was meant for something greater - that I was put on this earth for a purpose, and that I still had something valuable to give to the world.
It was only much later in my life, as an adult already, that I realised that I can actually make my own decisions and steer my own life to place where I want to be and follow my own aspirations and goals and be happier.
Besides my 50+ years life experience, those goals lead me to have a B.A HSSS Degree for Professional Contexts, an Honours Psychology Degree, a Counselling Certificate, an ICF Endorsed Coaching Certificate, more than 25 years of corporate work experience and in-house training, more than 5 years of lecturing, and counselling, experience, and more than 5 years course creation experience, and a life-time of commercial and creative art experience, among other things.
I see people every day, in reality and on social media, trying to cope with life the best they can. A lot of them seem to struggle with things like depression, anxiety, and just generally seem to lack the mental coping skills to deal with the toll that life puts on them and more so to really thrive and be happy. To be able to cope, they then perhaps go and see a psychologist or counsellor and sit there session after session, sometimes years on end, spending their hard earned money to sit and spill their guts, focussing only on the past, and the negative, with often no real solution for their life.
Life in general requires a person to be psychologically very strong, to have the support of significant others, to have problems-solving skills, perseverance, and self-discipline. You need to be able to build relationships, to be determined, to use the skills and talents that you have, to have resilience, to have confidence, and a bit of attitude, to be open to experiences, and to not stop dreaming.

So that made me think, how did I get through it, and what is needed to psychologically cope with life? How did I come this far in life? How do you become a strong, independent person, while still keeping your humanity? How do you strike that fine balance between accepting who you are, while also not letting anyone else define who you are? What does it take to thrive and be happy instead of just survive? Is it possible to experience this in the mids of a life filled with negatives bombarding you?
I BELIEVE SO!
The answers to these questions became my life's work of helping other people to transform themselves to be able to reach their own full potential and move from surviving to thriving and become truly happy.
Wellness coaching has a holistic approach. This means taking a person's spiritual, physical, intellectual, relational, and emotional dimensions in consideration.
According to the positive psychology approach, the absence of illness is not necessarily wellness and lends itself more to coaching with a futuristic outlook, rather than counselling and dwelling on the past.
A picture can say more than a thousand words! Therefore I interchangeably make use of art therapy. Often our inner world is hard to express in words, but more easily expressed through art. Art is also a way of solution finding in of it self.
Positive psychology makes use of a person's own strengths and goes out from the premises that people are inherently good. It calls for accountability in transformation, which is best for optimal results. I am a strong believer that in the end we can ultimately only help ourselves through coming to our own realisations and accepting our own truth.
Unlike traditional psychoanalysis, coaching can be made much more concrete and specific. You will know exactly what to do, and how to do it to get specific results. In this way, the abstract construct of happiness can be made more clear and specific.

WHAT IS HAPPINESS? WHAT IS THAT THING THAT EVERYBODY WANTS?
Happiness can refer to concepts like flourishing, self-actualisation, joy, and purpose.
The PERMAH Model is the Theory of Wellbeing which shifts the focus of illness to the good and positive. It goes out from the premises that the absence of illness is not necessarily wellness.
The PERMAH Model consists of 6 Components - Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment, and Health, which each contributes and adds to Wellbeing and Happiness.
For the purposes of my coaching courses and membership, I have switched these components around a little and add another 2 components which I think is critical for optimal wellbeing and happiness - Authenticity and Self-knowledge, and Workplace Wellness (since work forms such a large part of our life, I gave it its own space)
I then used these variables to create a clear, concise, progressive roadmap in the form of 9 courses, each bringing you closer to a happy, thriving, fulfilled life. So in order to address all the variables of happiness, and become truly happy, you should ideally follow the complete road from start to finish to create your full clear, holistic Blueprint for Happiness.
BY TAKING THIS ROAD TO HAPPINESS, I WILL SHOW YOU THE ESSENCE OF HAPPINESS AND THAT IT IS NOT SOME UNATTAINABLE SUBJECTIVE CONSTRUCT.
